A, B, C

A - Dwarf Cinquefoil (Potentilla canadensis)

Easy to grow and a good substitute for creeping buttercup, native Cinquefoil species are excellent sources of food for small bees and insects. This is a threatened species in Nova Scotia.

B - Blue-Bead Lily (Clintonia borealis)

These slow-growing, shade-loving plants are often consumed by grazing deer. A well established wild population can be quite hardy but they do not transplant well.

C - Dutchman's Breeches (Dicentra cucullaria)

While these are toxic to humans and most animals, ants make good use of the plant’s nutritious elaisome. They are an early bloomer that grows well in shady areas.
