P – Purple Avens (Geum rivale)
With a long flowering period, this plant is loved by pollinators. It grows in moist, cool habitats and is said to be deer resistant.
Q – Common Hop (Humulus lupulus)
This is a vigorous vine that hosts many butterflies and moths. At least one variety is critically imperiled and in serious danger of extirpation in Nova Scotia.
R – Bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis)
One of the first flowers seen in spring, bloodroot leaves hug its buds for protection until they bloom. Its name is derived from the red sap produced by this plant.
